💡 How to choose Basil Leaves for cooking
There are two types of holy basil leaves: white holy basil and red holy basil.
White holy basil has larger, rounder leaves with a mild aroma and may have soft hairs on the leaves. Red holy basil has a much stronger fragrance, making it ideal for spicy dishes and stir-fries. Its pungent aroma helps eliminate the gamey smell of meat and provides a hotter, more intense flavor than white holy basil.
Cooking recommendations:
Tom Yum / spicy boiled soups
Spicy stir-fried squid (Pad Cha Pla Muek)
Fish cake (Tod Mun Pla Grai)
Crispy fried century egg with holy basil
Deep-fried bread topped with minced pork
Holy basil fried rice
Omelet with holy basil
Boiled free-range chicken with holy basil
